So, I'd like to win a giveaway that Jessica is doing. To participate in her drawing, this entry is about my current filing system-which brings me joy. However, I would like to have a prettier system, and that's why I want to win a JOYS filing system.
First off, take a look:
Now, I'll explain how it works (for those of you who don't win the contest and want to try an organizing system that is easy, inexpensive and effective).
You'll need:
Hanging Folders
Manila Folders
Main Index Reference Sheet (MIRS)
To begin, label each hanging folder with three numbers. For example, begin with 1000-1002. My filing system currently has 10 hanging folders. Numbers range from 1000-1029. You can expand the number of hanging folders as needed.
Next, put three manila folders inside each of your hanging folders. There is no need to number these folders, as long as you leave them in their proper location when you start organizing. If you don't number them, they can be used again. However, do what works best for you.
After you have your system set up (easy!) now is the time to start filling it with papers and other important stuff. On a piece of paper, create your Main Index Reference Sheet (MIRS) by writing numbers down the left hand column of the paper. Make sure to put a dividing line to distinguish the three manila folders grouped within the hanging folder. For example-
1000-
1001-
1002-
-----------
1003-
1004-
1005-
----------
Give each number a category.
1000- Car papers
1001- Taxes
1002- Recipes
---------
Once you have your MIRS created, you can begin filling up your manila folders with your papers and place them inside the hanging folders.
Be sure to file your MIRS in the front of your filing system in its own hanging folder for easy access and quick reference. I write my MIRS with pencil so I can erase and make changes when necessary.
I've been using this system for six years and have never had a problem with it. It works for me and it brings me joy!

I am simultaneously awed and envious. I suck at organization. And, having scrolled through a couple of your posts, most of us started off being newbie blogging dorks that didn't know what we were doing! I am sure if you are capable of figuring out a filing system like this, you will have no problem grasping the finer aspects of blogging!
