My Blog's Namesake

Have you ever been curious as to how my blog got the name 'Providential Pandemonium'? Wonder no more, because I am going to tell you how it came to be.

I started my blog on July 16, 2007 (I just realized that was six months ago, today! Happy Half-Blogging Birthday to me! Woot!), and I was trying to come up with a name for it before I could start a post about my new home. I love learning new words and I really enjoy two websites that I frequent often. One is Dictionary.com, and the other is Thesaurus.com. Each day there is a 'New Word of the Day', and on July 16, 2007, the word was 'Providential'.

Prov*i*den*tial: pronounced [prov-i-den-shuhl] is an adjective meaning:
  1. Of or resulting from divine providence.
  2. Happening as if through divine intervention; opportune.
That day, I thought it was providential that I happened upon the word. I love words that start with the letter 'P' ('K' is a close favorite as well), but mostly I felt like there are a lot of things in my life that happen through divine intervention. I know God has a firm hand in the blessings that I enjoy, and I welcome His role in my life. I also feel that having a child of my own is a result of divine providence. I take the role of mother very seriously, and feel tremendously blessed to be one of the choice few to be able to raise a child. So, Providential was very fitting to me on that day.

Now, onto Pandemonium.

Pan*de*mo*ni*um: pronounced [pan-duh-moh-nee-uhm] is a noun describing:

1.wild uproar or unrestrained disorder; tumult or chaos.
2.a place or scene of riotous uproar or utter chaos.

I wanted an alliteration (definition: the commencement of two or more words of a word group with the same letter, as in apt alliteration's artful aid) in my blog title because I love the way they roll off the tongue. Providential Pandemonium just sounds quirky. It's fun. It makes you want to dance. Or something.

Besides the alliteration, I just thought the two words together was hilarious. However, it describes my life perfectly. There is this delicate balance of recognizing Providence, and yet, you turn the corner and it is complete pandemonium (I didn't even spell the word correctly the first time I tried it). My life, with my little girl, is sometimes very chaotic. We try to stay busy, and often times think sneak up on us and take over.

For example, I normally keep a very clean home. I have a very clean husband (he folds his dirty clothes, people), and I like being able to have things nice and tidy. Well, with the birth of our child and as she grows old, she is like a little tornado. It's amazing how much mess a little toddler can make is such a short amount of time. I can't even begin to fathom how my friends with five children (Hi Jaime!) do it. I have so much respect for them.

Some days, when things settle down (e.g., when Jader is in bed for the night), I will look around and notice all the clutter and the chaos. It is unruly at times. However, I have grown to accept and love it. When I see all that goes into caring for a child and taking care of a home, I am just grateful that I have a home. With things. And a child to mess the place up.

I truly am blessed.

Tell me about the title of your blogs. How did you come up with them? What do they mean to you?

ETA: I need to make a clarification for the sake of my husbands reputation, lest you think he is OCD. He would fold his clothes while we were dating. We would work out together in the morning, and since he lived miles out of town, it was easier for him to shower at my parents house and then go to work. So, he would fold his dirty gym clothes. He doesn't fold his clothes now, he just puts them in the hamper. He is a neat and orderly person, however. That hasn't changed.

I have often gone crazy (on a daily basis) with my 5 children. But all in all, my thought every day is that, I would never be the same with out them. I would completely and totally miss the uncontrolable mess and chaos that accompany them if they were gone. So every day I am greatful for the mess I have to deal with, because to not have the mess would mean I would not have 5 of the most joyful beings, in my life. Oh, and my husband does not fold his dirty clothes, I find them everywhere!!!
Lovely.....Right???

How funny! I can't believe he folds them. That's great! I named my blog "Notes from the Yellow Room" because even though I hate the wallpaper (you've seen it, so you know why) it was the most obvious trait of my blogging H.Q.

I should mention that Austin folded his dirty clothes while we were dating. We used to work out together, then instead of him driving back to his house (miles out of town), he would shower at my parents house, and then go to work. That is why his clothes were folded. Now, he just places them in our laundry basket. He is a very clean man. And for that, I am thankful!
