Conversation with My Daughter: Part III

Last week, I gave Jader her last immunization shot-the MMR shot, which I had been delaying since she was 15 months old. Of course, like always, she got a fever from the shot. I treated the fever (which lasted for two days) with Tylenol, and from that she got diarrhea (which isn't a surprise because it happens to her every time). Well, after her bout with diarrhea (which thankfully lasted for only one day), she started getting a runny nose, began sneezing, and coughing. Basically, I took my healthy daughter to a clinic to get shots and brought a sick child home. She caught a cold from the clinic. It's no wonder I have to talk myself into giving her the shots each and every time I took her in.

Anyway, this isn't an immunization vent, this post is about the funniest conversation I have had with my daughter.

We just returned from a trip to Grand Junction, Colorado, where we spent three days to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary. Because Jader was sick during this trip, we brought her into our bed to sleep between us. This is usually a treat for her, because neither my husband nor I sleep well when she is in the bed with us. On the last night, she started feeling better, so I attempted to get her to sleep in her Pack and Play. She was whiny and crying a lot that night, and saying "No" a lot more than usual.

I decided to ask her some questions and see if I could get a "Yes" answer out of her.

Me: "Do you love Mommy?"

Jader: "No."

"Do you love Daddy?"

"No."

"Do you love yourself?"

"No."

"Do you love Sammy (our cat)?"

"No."

"Do you love Jesus?"

"No."

"Do you love ice cream?"

Pause.

"Yeah."

I laughed so hard, because she said it with such little enthusiasm, but she really meant it. Then, when I realized that she picked ice cream over me, I stopped laughing.
