Intuition Confirmed

My doctors appointment went really well today. Usually the doctor is in surgery on Fridays, but his patients that were due for C-Section today already had their babies, so I ended up being his only patient. This situation worked to my advantage because I was able to spend as much time asking questions and going over concerns - generally getting to know the doctor - without feeling rushed.

This also means that he was able to squeeze in an ultrasound appointment. Which means, we found out what we are having. And, it's a BOY!

This is one of the pictures the doctor took, and this picture cracks me up. I just think it's too funny that the words 'IT'S A BOY!!!' are stamped on to the ultrasound image, with an arrow pointing directly to the baby's penis.

I know this picture isn't the traditional profile picture, and I hope no one finds offense to it. But, my little boy didn't want to show us his face, yet. He was proud of his boy parts, and his hands and feet. He was just telling us he is all boy and proud of it.

If you are offended by the first picture, here's a picture of him waving 'Hi!'.

It's my backup picture in case I change my mind about posting the first one, or if my husband says I should take it off.

Anyway, the baby is healthy and happy. He has all his fingers and toes, four heart chambers, three blood vessels in his umbilical cord, healthy kidneys, a nice round head, and seems to be livin' large in my womb.

I was relieved to hear that he is healthy, because I was starting to feel slightly irresponsible for not going in to the doctor earlier than I did. I didn't even take a pregnancy test until I was 13 weeks along. Even though I knew I was pregnant within the first three weeks. By the time I called the doctor (at 14 weeks) to make an appointment, I was told I would have to wait 5-6 weeks until I could see him because he is so backlogged since he is the only OBGYN in this area.

I was okay with waiting, though, because I am a very healthy person and I have healthy pregnancies. I've never experienced the heartache of a miscarriage, and so I just felt confident that I could wait until 19 weeks to visit the doctor for the first time. It was kind of weird meeting the doctor for the first time and at the same appointment getting an ultrasound done to find out the gender of our baby. But, I'd do it again because it was great.

I was impressed with the doctor and the time he took to describe and explain everything we were seeing during the ultrasound. I really learned a lot during this ultrasound. So, in a way I can say I was blessed by the doctor being pulled out yesterday, because I don't think I would have had the privilege of finding out what we're having (or even having the ultrasound for that matter). A little disappointment yesterday led to a very sweet reward today.

Wow, a BOY!!! How exciting. And no offense whatsoever at the gender revealing picture!! I think that's kinda funny about the arrow and the large lettering announcing the boy! So glad everything went well and that you had extra time at the Dr's appt. That makes it nice. Any names lurking around in your head, or is that secret???

congratulations! with my second pregnancy i didn't go see the doc until i was 20-22 weeks along. then they got mixed up as to why i was there, and when they asked my LMP, and i told them, they said "um, and you're sure you're not preganant?". HA! no ultrasounds for me, though.

boys are fun (says me, the mama of 3 of them).

Ahhh, Jader's going to have a little brother! Boys are easier than girls. I'm glad you like your Dr. I can't believe there's only one OBGYN there! I would have thought you for a midwife kinda girl though ;)

Jill-I have some ideas for boy names, but want to narrow them down. I'll do a poll.
Mamafitz and Emily-Thank you so much. We're excited to raise a boy, even though I am a little apprehensive.
Ragan-I would LOVE to have a midwife, but Austin won't let me do it. And, this isn't the right area for midwifery. I'd have to travel to Provo, and I'm not willing to drive that far, and especially in the dead of winter. So, maybe someday, but not with this child.

Congrats! I would love to visit the dr for the first time at 19 weeks. Although if I did that I think my OB would have a hernia. He likes to see patients no earlier than 10 weeks, but at least by 12 weeks.

Welcome to boy land...you will love it. I love my boys, and would gladly have many more boys. They are so much fun. Since you love sports so much you will be a perfect mom for him!

My little boys had the exact first picture taken of him. Boys are sure proud of themselves. Unfortunately I didn't have a blog at that time or it would have been posted.
Congratulations on it being a boy. They are so much fun, I wish I had more little boys!

Congratulations guys. Ours is due for entrance in this life on September 12th with Jenny's scheduled C section. Keep us updated. I will post to our blog when the day comes. I have started school and it is a killer. But not that bad. Jackson is as big as they come, just ask him. Take care.
