Restaurant Incident

On our first day of vacation we had quite an incident occur while eating lunch at the Olive Garden. We were enjoying our lunch, and Jader was out of her chair and standing next to me when a waitress, kitty-corner to our table, lost balance of her tray full of dirty dishes (she was clearing a table) and dumped them in our direction. A bowl fell from her tray and hit Jader squarely on the top of her head. She got a goose-egg immediately and we weren't able to calm her down from her crying for almost five minutes. At first I thought she was just scared from all of the commotion of the dishes and food crashing around her, but then I realized that she did get hit on the head and she was in a lot of pain.

The entire restaurant -within view- stopped eating and started staring at us. Then a lot of staff and managers came out and tried to do everything they could to make things better. They made sure Jader was okay and offered to bring ice and towels for her goose-egg. They said if we needed to seek medical attention they would pay for all expenses incurred. They comped our meal and really tried to soothe everything over. I was thinking they must be really concerned that we would try to sue them.

Sure, if it was hot soup or knives that fell on our daughter we would have had a much different feeling about it, but it really was an accident. I felt bad for the waitress. But, I was really upset that they hurt my little girl and that I couldn't do anything to take her pain away. I wanted to cry myself.

I just hope this incident isn't a tale of things to come while we are on vacation.
