Pregnancy affects my game play

If you would have asked me a month ago why I was playing co-ed softball while pregnant, I would have answered 'for the exercise'. If you would have asked me last night why I was six months pregnant and playing co-ed softball, I would have answered 'because I'm an idiot'.

Seriously, this pregnancy seems to be playing a big role in how coordinated I am and how quickly I think and react. I can honestly say that my skills have been going downhill fast in the last couple of weeks.

Last night, while playing in the tournament and our last game of the season, I was set up to catch a deep fly ball in center field (I was just waiting for it to fall in my glove), when the ball missed my glove by a foot and hit me right in the belly.

It didn't hurt too bad (thank goodness!!) and it didn't hurt my son growing in my womb (thank goodness!!!!-explanation points times ten), but I am still so confused about how it happened. I honestly and truly believe that my depth perception is askew with this pregnancy.

I have been playing softball since I was five, and playing it well since about that age, also. I was on two high school championship teams, and have been playing this sport for 24 years. You'd think I would be able to catch a fly ball. Nope! It hit the top of my belly and left a little bruise.

Of course, people that know I'm pregnant were pretty concerned. Other people were probably confused about my reaction to the whole situation. I don't look six months pregnant, in fact, a lot of people can't tell I'm pregnant at all. So, when I told them to switch my position to catch and that I was pretty much done playing ball for the night, I surprised some people.

Has this happened to any of you (mother's)?

I am a complete klutz when I am pregnant...always tripping. I had a friend that rode her bike all the time when she was pregnant. I don't know how she did that I could never keep my balance!

I swear it is like an extension of the pregnancy brain. You can't remember anything not even how to catch a ball. Be careful you don't want to be raising your blood pressure with your competitve spirit.

Volleyball - I was about six months pregnant at the time also and not showing but since it was with my family they all knew I was pregnant and tried to take it easy on me. I'm usually not extremely into sports so I never really do very well with them, but it was bad this time and a ball bounced and hit my stomach - I said I was finished and that I'd watch from then on.
The ball bounced on the ground before it hit me too - I should have been able to catch it, if not hit it or something!

Volleyball....I dived or a ball when I was 8 months pregnant. Everyone but me almost had heart attack. I had talked to my doctor before continuing to play and he said people would be surprised how protected a baby in the womb is. A pregnant women can get in a horrific car accident and actually die, but the baby turns out completly fine the majority of the time. If of course they can get it out fast enough.
I'm not sure if I was less coordinated or not. You'll be o.k. bodies do different things at different times!
