We're back from vacation!

We returned home from our nine day vacation to find everything safe and well on the home front. We've been home for a couple of days, but I was busy Monday getting our vacation stuff put away and preparing the house for some company. On Tuesday, I was busy canning tomatoes, because while we were gone, a lot of our tomatoes turned red. We came home to quite a bounty of tomatoes and a small bowl full of delicious raspberries. There is not much in the world that beats fresh produce from a garden. Even though our garden is small, I love reaping the rewards of having a garden.

But, I digress, this is a post about our vacation. So, let me tell you all about the fun we had.

Our fun started after the restaurant incident. We spent one night in Grand Junction, but it was pretty uneventful.

This picture is titled 'Copulation'. It is a statue outside of the hotel we always stay in when we go to Junction. Makes me laugh every time I see it. (Sorry about the quality, it's a phone pic.)

We did a little shopping in the morning and we left in the early afternoon for the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. We had a great time hiking, browsing the visitor's center, and camping overnight. We stayed on the south rim, and we had great weather. We were planning on staying two nights, but a storm moved in, and so we ended up leaving after one night.

Here's a picture of Jader and her daddy in Black Canyon at our campsite. She spent some time in her trail pack, and she really loved it. Thank goodness Austin was there to pack her around, it would have been too difficult for me to carry the extra thirty pounds of Jader (plus pack), plus my pregnancy weight.

After camping, we stayed a night in Paonia, Colorado at our friends parent's house. We had such a great time on their farm, and they were so kind to us even though they had just met us. Thank you, Joe and Shirley! I wish I had pictures to post of Jader enjoying their swing, trampoline, and farm animals. But, of course, I didn't have my camera around my neck the whole vacation. Bummer.

After Paonia, we traveled to Marble, CO, and enjoyed a hike to see the Yule Marble Quarry. It was spectacular and amazing.

Our day out was shortened because rain was threatening, so we traveled to Vail and stayed the night. We didn't do anything blog worthy there because the weather was dark and rainy.

From Vail we traveled through Nederland, CO, where I had the worse tasting biscuits and gravy I have ever tasted. I have sent a total of two entrees back to the kitchen while eating out, and this was the second one.

Jader enjoyed the restaurant, and we captured this cute picture of her.

After lunch, we traveled to Estes Park, CO, and had a lovely visit and dinner with the Nydell Family. I worked with Tamara and Mark in Zion National Park for a short time just before I gave birth to Jader. They have a cutie pie daughter, Grace, that is just a little younger than Jader, and they loved playing together. It was adorable.

From Estes Park, we drove to Lyons, Colorado, and spent the next three nights with my aunt. We spent our days in Denver, and our nights in Lyons.

Our first day in Denver, we enjoyed fourth row seats, along the first base line, at a Colorado Rockies game. They lost the game to the San Fransisco Giants, 9-2, but we still had a great time. We splurged on $5 hot dogs, $3 cracker jacks, and $6 ice cream. We were your typical American sports enthusiast. But, it was a promotional day, so each of us got a free t-shirt. Free stuff is nice when you're on vacation.

Here's a picture Jader and I after the game.

The next day we had a blast at the Denver Zoo. Of course we had tons of fun, and took tons of pictures, but here is just one. Jader was loving this duck goose.

The day after the zoo, we started towards home. We traveled through Rocky Mountain National Park, and boy was it cold. Jader and I weren't dressed for the bone chilling winds we found at one of the higher peaks. Brr...

It sure was a beautiful park. I want to visit for a greater length of time in the future. I really love glaciated landscapes. They are one of my favorite geologic/topographic features.

We spent a night in Steamboat Springs, and didn't do much in that town either. We were anxious to make our way home by this point. After spending one night with my family in Roosevelt, Utah, we finally made our way back to home.

We had a great vacation and a wonderful time together as a family. Jader traveled really well and adjusted easily to each activity. She is at the perfect age to throw new activities and schedules at her.

I am looking forward to our next family vacation, but the next time we take off, I want to fly to one location and just stay there for the entire visit. I was (and Jader, too) sick of the car by the time the nine days were over.

It's nice to be home, and I'm very grateful for the safe travels we enjoyed.

How fun! I love Colorado and I love vaction! I was reading up on tomatoes and raspberries since you asked me about them. Raspberries are suseptible to Verticillium wilt which is common in tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, and other members of the Solonacea family. Anyway, you can infect your raspberries if they are planted near or in soil that has been exposed to the disease, but there are resistant varieties of both the berries and the vegetables. Most varieties of veggies that you buy now are resistant to this disease, but the heirloom varieties aren't as much. My guess is that you will most likely be fine. I can come give you some garden pointers sometime if you want to help you avoid the problem, but it will probably be just fine. I'm glad you got some tomatoes- mine are very abundant too! Sorry for the long comment, but you got me thinking horticulturally! :)

Julie I believe jader is looking at a goose of some variety. Looks like you had a ton of fun. We are looking forward to a vacation next summer. Maybe a staycation will be the flavor.
