A Year in Review

I've seen this post traveling through the Blogosphere and thought I would participate. It will be a fun reference for me when I peruse my blog journal in the years to come.

1. What did you do in 2008 that you’d never done before?
Had professional belly shots taken. Almost wrecked my mom's brand new van while driving on the interstate in Wyoming.

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I wrote this resolution entry in early January 2008, and can happily report that I kept at least two and a half of my eight resolutions. I will plan and record nine resolutions for 2009.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Yes, my SIL Kristin, and many close friends.

4. Did anyone close to you die? We weren't close (as in close friends) but President Gordon B. Hinckley's death impacted me.

5. What countries did you visit? None.

6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008? A newborn baby.

7. What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? Finding out I was pregnant, my mom's 60th birthday, Father's day (first one without my dad), my dad's death date, the day we were sealed as a family.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Being a good mother.

9. What was your biggest failure? Striking out. I know, pretty superficial, but I couldn't think of anything else off the top of my head.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? No, unless you call pregnancy an illness (pregnancy gingivitis, anyone?) . Apparently it isn't, but I'd like to argue that some days I feel very incapacitated.

11. What was the best thing you bought? A new DSLR camera. Canon Rebel XSI--my Christmas present from my loving husband.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration? Jader; she decided to potty learn. We have been very, very pleased with her decision.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? My hormonal driven behavior at times appalled me.

14. Where did most of your money go? Mortgage, gasoline, tithing, groceries, vacation,....LIFE.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Hmm...maybe supper swapping and how it has been a tremendous help in my life.

16. What song will always remind you of 2008? Big and Chunky by will.i.am

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Happier; last year I was seriously mourning my father at this time.
b) thinner or fatter? Fatter; being pregnant will do that to you. Darn it!
c) richer or poorer? Richer; $20K more a year, baby!

18. What do you wish you’d done more of? Vacationing.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of? Consuming sugar.

20. How did you spend Christmas? Christmas was a blur last year.

21. Did you fall in love in 2008? Yes; more in love with my husband and daughter.

22. What was your favorite TV program? I enjoyed watching The Amazing Race.

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? Hate is a strong word, but I might dislike someone more now than I did last year.

24. What was the best book you read? I enjoyed the Women of the Genesis series by Orson Scott Card.

25. What was your greatest musical discovery? I allowed myself to listen to Country music. It's changed a lot in the last 12 years.

26. What did you want and get? A camera.

27. What did you want and not get? A new bed, but I'm still holding out for this. Well see how we use the upcoming bonuses we will be receiving. ;)

28. What was your favorite film of this year? Madagascar 2

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I don't remember; I turned 29.

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008? Lousy; I dare say that sweats and t-shirts are not fashionable.

32. What kept you sane? Trusting in the Lord and knowing that He would guide and direct me.

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Not too fond of celebrities.

34. What political issue stirred you the most? The election.

35. Who did you miss? My father.

36. Who was the best new person you met? Erin.

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008. We don't always have control over what will happen to us in our lives, but there is always a purpose. Sometimes we will be frustrated and tears will come easily, but other times we will be so full of love and joy and it will seem like our blessings are immeasurable.

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year. "I like 'em big. I like 'em chunky....I like 'em round, with somethin' somethin'" From Madagascar 2...can't help but sing this song every day during my pregnancy.

I haven't heard that song yet, but I'm still laughing about it; it really is a good description of pregnancy. Thanks for the personal look at your year. I can't wait to meet the 2009 addition, I bet he's adorable!
