Vacation and current projects

We are back from vacation, and I'm trying to get settled into life again. It's not fun to come back to house work and cooking after being away for a couple of weeks. I am happy to be surrounded with my own stuff again, and to be working on some fun projects that I missed while away, but the mundane tasks? -I didn't miss those at all!

I am troubled to admit that after spending four nights in Zion National Park and four nights at a hotel in St. George, I didn't take one single picture! Not one! What is the point in having a nice camera, packing it in the car, unloading it at our destinations, but never taking a picture? I don't know what happened. I don't know what overcame me. I do know that I will probably regret it though.

I worked in Zion National Park for four years and it feels like a home away from home. Maybe that is why I didn't take any pictures this go around. I'm so familiar with it. But, I do have some pictures to share from my past.

 This is what the view looked like from the home we stayed in while at the park. I'm not sure if you can tell, but there is an arch in this picture. It is called the Crawford Arch. In the top left corner, where the rock makes a 'V', look to the right, past a patch of trees, and you will see a fingernail shape, curved slightly to the left. That's the arch.

 Zion is gorgeous. If you haven't had the chance to visit, you really must try. Go in October or February/March. That is the best time to visit because it is cooler and much less crowded. Also, if you choose to stay in a hotel, you will get great 'off-season' rates.

In St. George, we spent time eating great food, shopping, mountain bike riding (we got babysitters), swimming, watching movies, and spending fantastic quality time as a family.

While we were gone, Grant learned to say the words 'Ma ma'. Too cute! I've been teaching him to say them, because he has 'da da' down, and I was feeling left out. When he finally said it for the first time (and since) I was giddy with joy! I love my little guy.

He was spoiled on the trip because he got to sleep next to his mom. Austin and Kalli spent a couple of nights in the same bed (she insisted he sleep in her bed next to her), and Grant and I shared the other bed. Since we've been back home, reality has hit for Grant. He is back in his crib for most of the night. I am really trying to get him to sleep through the night. I had to revert to wrapping him very tightly in his blanket, and lying him on his belly to sleep. The first night I did this, he slept for 7 hours. It was heaven! Last night, I did it again, and he slept well again. So, with the brief respite in his teething, I am hoping to establish some healthy sleeping habits with him.

I've finished up a couple of projects, and have added some new projects to my list to complete. One project has been to finish decorating Kalli's bedroom. We moved her to the basement this summer (after her 3rd birthday) and I've been working on transforming it into a girlie room for her.

It used to look like this:

But, we painted three walls beige and one wall pink, and moved her furniture in.

And, with the addition of this photo board;

an old door with a picture of Kalli and a wreath which is a revision of a ragamuffin garland;

another ragamuffin wreath for the window;

(I used fabric that my mother gave me (vintage fabric), fabric from projects I have used to make other things for kalli, and some ribbons and ric rac from my stash. The colors aren't translating correctly, and I'm too lazy to fix it. Sorry. You get the idea, though.)

her room is slowly transforming.

I still have to paint a mirror frame, and then I should be close to finished. I'll include some finished pictures when the room is tidy and photo perfect. :)

Next couple of projects: decorate Grant's room (I'm looking for an old map to frame, some stars, and some lamps.), sew Fall table runner and table placemats using Moda's Gobble Gobble fabric, sew two nursing covers, etc...etc..
