Summer (So Far)

We've been keeping it pretty low-key around here for the summer. It's just easier for me to stay non-busy. Kalli asks for a friend every day (often asking for another one before the current friend walks out the front door), so we've been doing that more than going out. It's nice, though. I've been low on energy during this entire pregnancy, and have been busy with blog design, so the outings are less. Again, with the knee injury and chasing a toddler, this is just easier.

But, we've done a couple of fun so far. We spent an afternoon at the Living Planet Aquarium in Sandy, Utah a couple of weeks ago. The children had a blast. It is always so thrilling to see the genuine excitement on their faces around animals.

Grant had a blast looking at the snakes, turtles, toads and sharks.

He even had fun crawling around in the coral exhibit. He wanted to touch the sting rays, but got a little shy when they came near. But, Kalli finally touched one (after much convincing). Let's be honest, I had to convince myself to touch one. I was quite surprised at how stiff they felt. I thought it would be a much softer, jelly-like feeling, but they had a strong, muscle-like feel to them.

After our day at the aquarium, we met up with part of my family and enjoyed lunch at the Olive Garden. We had plans to stay the night in a hotel in Sandy, because we had a Sherman family reunion Sunday-through Wednesday in Wolf Creek (up Ogden Canyon).

At the hotel, Grant experienced his first underwater experience. His niece was watching him in the small pool, and turned around for a second and he went head first under the water. Thankfully she reacted quickly when I yelled at her to grab him. I, of course, was across the room, and Austin was in the other pool. If I had asked Kalli to grab him, she would have acted in her typical 4-year-old fashion. "Huh?" "Grab who?" "Where is he?". Pretty scary. Oh, and I should mention that two short days later, he went under again at the pool in Wolf Creek. His aunt took him into the kiddie pool, and he did the same thing. She looked over to talk to her kids in the big pool, and he used that time to fall forward in the pool. Stinker. You'd think they'd learn. Thankfully it wasn't serious. Scary for me, none-the-less.

This makes me sick to admit, but this is the first family photo taken of all of us together since Grant was born. He is 18 months. Why do I have such an aversion to getting pictures taken when I have such an interest in photography? I am stumped by it. Don't get me wrong, I've wanted to get family pictures taken, more than once, but it seems like something always comes up.

This is the face Grant always makes when we tell him he is going to be a big brother in four months. Ha ha.

(*Actually, he was mad I wouldn't let him have my camera.)

And this is how Kalli feels about it.

"Me? I'm going to have another brother/sister? Yay! Can't wait!"

She asked me the other day if we could get the baby out now. I think she was bored and wanted someone to play with. Um...no. Not for 17 more weeks.

We have the big ultrasound this Wednesday. We're not going to find out the gender with this baby, but it will be nice to find out if the baby is growing the way he/she should and to find that everything is fine anatomically. I'll keep you posted.

Lastly, I just wanted to share some of the things I've been enjoying lately.
