Dad's Obituary

William “Bill” Garfield Sims, 70, our “determined guardian”, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2007, after a long and courageous battle of two separate cancer occurrences.

Bill was born in Buffalo Creek, Wyoming on July 5, 1937 (or was it 1936?). He served in the United States Marine Corps, and later attended the University of Wyoming, where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Range Management. He was employed with US Forest Service and retired after 35 years of quality service.

He married Sherry Lynn Kopp on September 15, 1967, in Swan Valley, Idaho. They made their home in Altonah and Roosevelt, Utah, where they raised five children together. They recently celebrated 40 years of marriage.

He is survived by his wife and five children: Paul (Mindy) Sims of Midway, Utah; David (Andrea) Sims of Saratoga Springs, Utah; Jason Sims of Roosevelt, Utah; Scott (Kristin) Sims of Roosevelt, Utah; Julie (Austin) Sherman of Price, Utah; six grandchildren; two sisters and one brother. Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and five sisters.

Services were held Saturday, December 22, 2007, at the Roosevelt West Stake Center. Burial in the Roosevelt Memorial Park with Military Honors presented by the American Legion Post #64. Online condolences at http://www.hullingermortuary.com/

He will be remembered by his family as a gracious gentleman, an unequaled Mountain Man and Horseman, of an unyielding character, always being fair, a health enthusiast, and a loving father. We love you, Dad. You will be greatly missed.
