The doctor asked if I wanted to give Jader a penicillin shot or give her the oral antibiotics. I hesitate between the two because I knew the shot would be easier, but her granddad was allergic to penicillin and I didn't want to risk her having an allergic reaction to it. But, I also knew that she is very difficult to give medicine to, and I didn't want to have to fight giving her the medicine.
I decided to give her the antibiotics myself with the oral drops because I didn't want to give her the shot. I probably should have risked the shot, because I have been fighting her with the medicine. She cries and tries to knock the medicine out of my hand. I have tried giving her the meds in a spoon, a dropper, in a small cup. I have tried to make noises that might entertain her. When I tried the airplane trick she just looked at me like I was an idiot. I tell her she can have milk after she takes her medicine, and try to explain that it will make her feel better if she takes it. I'm at a loss here.
Sometimes I wonder if the entire dosage even gets into her mouth when I finally
My question to my readers, do you have a creative solution to giving medicine to children?

Good Question. I have just always faught my children. It's easier when they are at an age that you can reason with them a little better. Just keep trying. I assume this is a medicine that can't be mixed with a juice? I guess even if it was, the juice would probably tast disgusting then you wouldn't be able to get her to drink her juice. the best way for me to ever do it was for Dave to hold them down while I shot the medicine in their mouth. Sorry I don't have any great ideas!
If you're alone, here's how to do it (it sounds like torture, but hey, it's for the greater good, right?): Lay her down on her back, sit between her outspread legs, put your lower thighs on her thighs and your calves on her upper arm; hold her cheeks with one hand to open her mouth and hold her head still and slowly administer the medicine. They can't get out of this one, I promise, and in about 2 mintues they won't remember you even did it and be begging for you to hold them again.
Horrible, isn't it!? I feel awful doing it - until he gets better...
