Thrifting is Nifty

I haven't blogged about my thrift finds for a long time, so I thought a post was due. Not that it would interest many of you, but for my fellow thrifters, this is what I've scored in the last month.

My husband and I went to a Kid to Kid (gently used baby/children's items) store a couple of weeks ago, and came home with a great purchase. We found a BabyBjorn Baby Carrier Active in Green/Lime, for about 33% of the original price, and it didn't even look like it had been used. There was a little bit of spit up on the carrier (which means it was used at least once) but, it washed right out. I also found a fleece car seat cover for the little guy during the cold winter months. I was prepared to sew one myself, but I got lucky.

We came home from the store with a lot of clothes for Jader, and pj's and other items for our little boy (have I mentioned lately that we are probably going to name him Grant. Even after all that polling I did early in my pregnancy. We decided we didn't want to go the 'K' route. Oh, and I only have 8 weeks left! Woot!). I also picked up some great maternity clothes from the store. Who would have guessed that a children's store has brand name maternity clothes.

The other day I went with Austin and Jader to Deseret Industries (D.I.), a thrift store sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and we found some sweet deals!

Austin got some Florsheim shoes ($200+ shoes) for $4. I found some cute Dr. Marten shoes (Mary Jane style) for $4. And, we found a bike for Kalli for $6, which retails around ~$120. We also found an old Coleman stove that retails near $100, for $3.

Can you tell yet that I love to thrift. To me, it's rejuvenating to simplify life and not have a desire to have everything brand new. It is a way I can contribute by living a little more green.

I have to admit though, that I think I have an addiction to buying one specific piece of clothing. In a relatively short time I have purchased five pairs of knit stockings for Jader to wear under her dresses/skirts this winter. I have three striped pairs, a hot pink pair, and a white/cream pair. I'll have to post a picture of them. I just think they are adorable, and I'm jealous because I think I need to find some for myself. Even though I know I wouldn't look near as cute in them.

I hope I've inspired you to go out and buy other people's used stuff. :) Have a great weekend!

nice deals! I've been wanting a baby bjorn carrier, so mabye kid 2 kid is the place to look! And he-he about the seed and Jader finally falling asleep in an awkward place...the kitchen floor isn't nearly as bad as the cement stairs!

Love the name Grant! Way to be thrifty. I wish St. George didn't have so many people - all the deals are gone before they hit the shelves!

Do you know a good place for online cupons? I looked some stuff up, but they all want surveys or make you sign up for credit cards and such before they'll share, which bothers me.
