A while ago, my husband bought some cheap-o bubble bath from K-mart for .99 cents. We thought, what a great deal! A huge container of bubble bath for less than a dollar, compared to my small bottle of Burt's Bees bubble bath that we get for $8.50 a bottle. A great deal, right?
Wrong.
Fast forward weeks later, and the cheap bubble bath gave my daughter a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection). I suspected an infection because she was having unexpected pee accidents, and her girly parts were red, and she was having some slight spotting in her panties every couple of days.
She never complained that anything hurt, or that it hurt to pee, so I let it be for a while. Finally, like a good mom, I took her in for a urine sample, and it was cultured and they found some bacteria colonies. The doctor recommended an antibiotic, so for the next ten days, Jader will be taking yucky medicine to treat the UTI.
The expensive part comes in when we paid for the Rx. Since we haven't met our deductible for the year, the medicine was $85 dollars. Ouch!!!
Our less than a dollar bubble bath has turned out to cost more than $100 dollars in medical expenses. We have definitely learned our lesson. The sad thing is, after I noticed that the bubble bath was causing irritation, I had to stop using it in Jader's bath. She was so sad about that for days. Thankfully she has forgotten about the bubbles, because she hasn't asked for them for a while. Another thing I am thankful for, is the fact that we don't have to pay an insurance premium each month. My husbands employment covers it for us. That little job perk makes it easier for me to swallow our expensive visits and medicines when the need arises.
I just hope that Jader doesn't have too severe of side effects from the medicine. I am expecting diarrhea, but I hope it's not too bad, and I hope it's the only one. I guess we can only wait and see. Oh, and sorry about all the gross info, I don't mean to overshare. I just hope someone else can learn from our expensive mistake.

Good to know. I love Burt's Bees. It is expensive, but now you've given me a good reason to buy more. I hope things get better for Jader. Medicine is no fun. :(
So, how exactly did you find out it was the bubble bath? Did they test for that? Interesting! My kids love bubble bath, but I don't get it for them, because they get to it and have it all dumped out by the second or third use!!!
Why do you think that it was the bubble bath? UTIs are very common in little girls Jaders age, especially as they learn proper hygiene. Hopefully you guys are doing well. NC will always welcome you.
