In Review: Month Twelve (Happy Birthday, Grant!)

This little dude is one today.

Unfortunately, the celebrations have been postponed, because he has been sick since early Friday morning. For 48 hours, he had a fever hovering between 102-104 degrees. No other symptoms. The fever broke, and he was a happy baby for 12 hours. Then, another fever, of lesser degree, came to visit, and he is slowly recovering from the hit.

I want to make sure he is completely well before pumping him full of sugary sweets in the form of birthday cupcakes and ice cream.

After a doctor's visit (his scheduled one year well child check), we decided that he had a viral infection for the first fever, and the second fever episode is a manifestation of the three top teeth he is trying to cut.

Let's hope that is what is going on. Poor kid, though. His pain has been breaking my heart, and I've been a bit of a basket case. When my children are ill, I feel like I fall apart and all my mothering confidence just goes down the drain.

Anyway, back to Grant. He is one today.

Holy Moly.

Where did the time go?

Grant is such a good kid. He is easy-going, and mild mannered. He loves to copy his sister by making the same noises and gestures. He does everything she does. Even sticks his head under the water in the tub. Even though he hasn't learned the concept of holding his breath before doing so.

He loves to laugh, and be tickled. He is the most ticklish on his feet, under his knees, and on his belly.

He has been taking steps walking, but loves to climb and seems to be concentrating on this skill, rather than walking around. Here is a picture of him climbing into the bone pit at the local CEU Prehistoric Museum. He was so determined to get in the pit, that he didn't even know he was losing his pants.

Grant loves to read books. He really likes to turn the pages. He especially likes to join his sister at bedtime to listen to the books read to her.

He likes to say 'ma ma' and 'da da', and 'bye'. He signs the word for 'more' by clapping his hands.

He is such a good kid, and I'm so happy he is a part of our family. I look forward to watching him grow and learn, and before I know it, another year will pass and he will be a toddler.

Grant, Happy Birthday! I love you, little man.

Will had the same kind of fever last week too. It was weird because it came out of no where, had no other symptoms and disappeared over night. He's already got all his teeth, so we weren't sure what was going on. It's tough having sick kids! I love the picture of him losing his pants. Boys can get so focused on one thing that nothing else matters and it makes me laugh!
