Wishin', and hopin', and thinkin', and prayin'

Kalli is the culprit. That's what I've decided. She is the first one in our home that always gets sick, and then she spreads her sick germs like wildfire through our home, and like a tornado, we are sucked into the germ fest.

Round #2 started on Saturday. Kalli was looking forward to attending a birthday party for most of the week, and when Saturday rolled around, she started complaining of a stomach ache. Whenever she tells us her stomach hurts, she ALWAYS ends up puking. No doubt about it.

I asked her if she felt like she was going to throw up, and she said no. I consistently asked her and she repeatedly denied it. She really wanted to go to the party. Turns out, an hour and fifteen minutes into the party, she is throwing up. I just knew it! So, I rushed her home, got her cleaned up and sent her to her bed to lie down. She basically stayed in her bed Saturday afternoon through Monday morning. She ended up having a touch of diarrhea (I can finally spell that word because of my children having it often enough) and a low-grade fever-staying around 99. But, thankfully it was only a 24-hour bug, and she had the determination to keep enough fluids in her body.

I felt icky on Monday and Tuesday...probably not to the degree that Kalli did, but my stomach had some pretty severe cramping and I had some of the 'D'.

Fast forward to Wednesday, and I'm basically thinking that I'm lucky the bug didn't catch the boys. So, we decide to venture out, just the four of us, to playgroup. Just before we left, Kalli received an invitation to another birthday party that was to be on Thursday. She was excited, to say the least!**

Four hours after playgroup, Austin is flying Grant in the air like an airplane, and Grant puked all over him. I initially thought he just played too rough, but Austin said 'No, he's sick'. And, sick he was. He continued to throw up throughout the night, and wouldn't keep any liquids down. He also had a touch of diarrhea, and his fever would fluctuate between 99-101. He went 12 hours without peeing, and I was pretty sure I was going to be checking him into the hospital for dehydration this morning.

Thankfully, yesterday around 3:30, he quit throwing up and would handle his liquids. I was giving him pedialyte through a syringe (1 teaspoon every 5 minutes). His fever broke enough that he slept well last night (even though I didn't) and today he seems to be on the mend. Let's hope, anyway. I feel like I have twins right now because when Grant is sick, it feels like he is more of an infant than a toddler (wanting to be held, crying, etc..)

When I'd hold Grant, I would have to wash my hands and change my top before I picked up Grayson. So, wishin', and hopin', and thinkin', and prayin', that is what I am doing so that Grayson doesn't get this awful bug. Even though it is short-lived, I really don't want to see my two month old go through it.

Fingers crossed!

**I decided I couldn't send Kalli to the birthday party. I didn't want to tell her that I had made that decision, but I finally did. It broke Kalli's heart when I told her I didn't feel comfortable sending her to the party when she might expose all of her friends to the bug we've had. She then broke my heart when she told me that I had ruined her "very special day" and that she didn't like me at the moment. It made me cry.

We've had a mild case of that at our house too. It's no fun, but especially hard with a young baby in the house. You really will get a break one of these days, but this has been a really hard winter for you. :(
