Kindergarten Assessment, First Day, and Two Weeks

Kalli had her Kindergarten Assessment on Wednesday, August 24th. I think I was more nervous than she was.
First day of Kindergarten, Tuesday, August 30, 2011. Castle Heights Elementary, Price, Utah.

When the Kindergarten teacher came to get her for her assessment, she just took Kalli with her. She didn't ask if I wanted to attend, too. I don't know if this was on purpose or not, but after some time had passed, I decided that I wanted to be with Kalli during her test. Partly because I was curious about what the questions were, and partly because I wanted to know how Kalli would answer. So, even though I wasn't invited, I ended up listening in about halfway through the test.

I was very entertained by Kalli's answers. That girl can be funny, and she was coming up with some off the wall answers just because she didn't know the answers. She already knows the concept of  "fake it, til you make it!". I don't think it is fair to take a five year old into a Kindergarten class and ask them to focus while a teacher asks very heavy questions. There are too many shiny and bright things to look at, and it's hard to concentrate. At one point, she said, "This is such a lovely room you have". She said this to the Kindergarten teacher that tested her, and I laughed out loud. I was trying to hard to sit quietly and unnoticed. I couldn't help but laugh.

She has been in school for over two weeks and she is loving it. She was matched with the perfect teacher for her personality, and I feel like Kalli has already started a great base and love for school that she will carry with her throughout her life. She looks forward to school each day, and has been a little sick lately, and the thought of her not being able to go to school breaks her heart. It is refreshing to see my oldest child embrace school this way, since I loved it so much, and she'll be able to set a good example for her siblings. I am hoping and praying she will continue loving school.
