A Very Long Night

**Warning: This post contains graphic description of a sudden onslaught of vomiting lasting through the night. The victim? My sweet, innocent baby girl.

My sweet little girl was sick all night long, waking every half an hour to an hour to vomit. It began yesterday evening around 5:00 pm, when she first vomited. She emptied her stomach contents all over her clothes, in my hand, on my pants, and on the couch. It caught me off guard, because she was fine up until that bewitching hour. She was laughing, jumping, playing, and just being a little girl. Then she started whining, asking for milk, then put her hand up to her face, and started retching. I was surprised, and felt like I couldn't move.

We were sitting on the couch, because my Visiting Teachers were here. I'm so sorry they had to see her vomiting. Not a pretty sight, especially for my friend who is 12 weeks pregnant. Talk about keeping the gag reflex in check. And, to top it off, I asked her to clean the vomit from the couch-I didn't want the stain to set-since I was busy getting it off of Kalli and I. If I had any idea of the upcoming onslaught, I would have taken her to the sink, to the tub, or would have found a bowl. But, I couldn't move. I was frozen to the couch and had so much concern for my little girl. I could only hold my hands out for her to throw up in, and try to console her in her pain and misery.

I was hoping it was a one time deal, and that maybe she got sick from something she ate. But, in the next hour an a half she threw up everything else I tried to give her (liquids). I was so nervous about her health that I wanted to talk to her pediatrician. It was after hours, but I was able to get a hold of her and she told me how to care for her.

Austin went to the store for Pedialyte. We gave it to her every 15 minutes, a half an ounce at a time. She wasn't able to keep that small amount down, and would throw it up within 15-30 minutes. She threw up from 5:00 pm until 2:00 am, then finally slept for three solid hours between 2:00 and 5:00 am. Which means, I slept from 2:00-5:00 am.

As of this morning, she has had some Gatorade and water. She also wanted to nurse, and I couldn't refuse her, even though I knew it would be difficult for her stomach to digest the milk. She has nursed a couple of times, and hasn't thrown up yet. So, hopefully, this vomit bug has passed. And what I hope even more, is that this is not the Rotavirus. I don't think I can handle another day of vomit, and 5-12 days of diarrhea. Stinky, nasty diarrhea. Not that I know from experience, but what I have read about the virus.

I will keep you posted.

Edited to add: She is doing much better. She was a little under the weather on Tuesday and Wednesday, and by today (Friday) she is feeling back to her normal self. With the exception that she is not eating as much as she used to. I have a feeling this whole incident has been related to her teething. She has been working on her two year molars. She has one in, and has been working on at least one more, or maybe three more. It's hard to tell. But, I'm just happy to have my little girl back. It was very difficult for me when she was sick. It really stresses me out and makes me feel so helpless.

Oh Julie! I'm so sorry she's so sick! I wish I could help you out a little bit somehow, but if there's anything you can think of, just let me know.

Thank you, Kristin. She has gone a full 12 hours without vomiting, so that is a good sign. Hopefully this was just a 24 hour bug.
I appreciate your concern and I'll give her a hug and kiss from you, just like you asked.
