Mainly the dilemma of buying spices in bulk.
I've always wanted to buy spices/seasonings in bulk from Costco, but I never have because I wouldn't be able to use the entire package before the expiration or suggested 'use by' date. Spcies lose their flavor and potency in a short amount of time after opening. I would never be able to use such large amounts in that time frame.
With a foodsaver, and an attachment that I will need to purchase, I will be able to seal unused portions back into a quart or pint jar and it will be like the spices were never opened. This way, I can get a small amount out of the larger containers, put it in my small containers for the cupboard, and seal the rest up for later use.
I'll be able to do this with spices and with liquids. This way, I can take advantage of the bulk product, but not lose any money in the end because I will be able to keep the product fresh.
I'm also going to use the Foodsaver for some preparedness measures.
Stay tuned to see what I'm doing with all this food.

I will be interested to see what you do! I want to do the same thing with my Foodsaver, I just haven't done it yet. I really need a small overhaul on our 72 hour kits! Now that Abby is getting more on a schedule I feel like I can handle that. I got my Foodsaver at a yard sale too! LOVE that.
