Marriage Gender Roles

Since marriage, Austin and I have fallen into specific roles in household duties. Without specifically saying "I will do this, and you do that", we have just found a natural groove in things.

Austin normally:
empties all of the trash throughout the house
does the majority of the dishes
cleans the tub and shower
mows the lawn and waters the outside plants
keeps the vehicles clean and vacuumed

I normally:
do the laundry
clean the bathrooms (minus tub and shower)
water inside plants
do all the cooking
dusting
organizing

We equally share:
in picking up after the children and ourselves
getting children to bed and nighttime duties
grocery shopping
vacuuming

I feel so lucky to have a spouse that participates so much in household duties, and childcare duties. I thought it was commonplace, but I am learning that I am just "one of those lucky ones".

(**Note: In the time it took me to write this post (and I am a fast typer), Grant moved a kitchen chair to the counter and found the  crock with room temperature butter in the which he spread upon himself and a handful of kitchen utensils, and even managed to flick some onto the floor. He also got into the anti-bacterial hand sanitizer, and tried to erase all of my phone messages on my answering machine. He spread magazines and books throughout the living room and in to his room, and tried to carry his lamp down the stairs. And, you wonder why I don't blog as much as I used to. Hmmm?)

I hope one day Scott and I can fall into some kind of natural groove that works for us. I have to keep in mind we've only been married 3 years. He does help, don't get me wrong, he does a lot; I just envy the natural flow couples have who have been together longer. Patience will be my friend. :)

Grant is doing his job well. He sure is a cute little guy and Kalli is growing up too fast. Logan can't even reach the petals on his big wheel yet!
